Upriver is a Creative Services studio that employs a variety of talent to arrive at effective marketing communications. As a direct resource to clients, or outsourced partner for consultants and ad agencies, Upriver assembles everything from graphic layouts to strategic marketing teams. With a foundation in art for graphic-intense projects, to art direction that serves a practical purpose, our Clients enjoy affordable rates and direct contact in a process that’s oriented toward the way they want to work. Background
After many rewarding years working at traditional advertising agencies throughout North and South Carolina, I decided to put my commercial art training and fine art passion to work for myself – on behalf of less traditional-need clients. So I started working out of my house, and before long, grew out of the space. In 1994. I opened an office in downtown Conway. It’s a restored building that I’ve turned into a spectacle of creative expression. In addition to the necessary workspace and high-end design tools, I’ve surrounded myself with inspiration – everything from reference books, to Indian artifacts, to toy car collections, to my Plunderware sculptures. It’s a place to truly keep the artistic juices flowing. I decided on the name “Upriver” because Conway is upriver from the Carolina coast geographically, and is considered a river town with all of its beautiful tributaries. But also because my studio is a tributary for clients – often leading them through a maze of communications possibilities to arrive at a larger body of work. Which ultimately helps to elevate their business. Because my client’s needs and requests sometimes expanded beyond my own areas of expertise, I began affiliating with a number of specialized consultants and marketing companies. Today, through a network of Affiliates, I supplement my creative services with some of the most capable brand consultants, marketing strategists, media planners, and the like in the southeast. These are professionals I trust, who have become my go-to team when the services of a “virtual agency” are called for. |
